Lowther castle.
Clickychick had a client and for various reasons, I was elected chauffer, for the morning. The venue was Lowther Castle so I had ample opportunity to find a blip. I rather liked this view from the side through the trees.
For those who don't know the castle, it was built in 1806 on land which had been in the same family's ownership since 1150. It was occupied for 130 years and then abandoned, because "the Yellow Earl" had spent a vast fortune and could no longer afford to live there. During WW1 the castle was requisitioned and tanks were used around the area. (Training?). In 1957nthe castle was stripped to a shell and everything down to door handles sold.
In recent years the decay has been stopped and the ruins made safe., in the woods behind the castle the garden was discovered, complete with old fountains, steps, etc. They are being restored and the castle is becoming a popular tourist spot.
