One for the money and the free rides
Forgot to post this on Friday when I took it.
COP26 is starting in Glasgow on Sunday. I work 200 yards from the airport (the wrong side of the front door -so right beside the runway.
I remember when G8 Meetings took place in Gleneagles - there were plastic seats set every 10 metres round the permiter of the airport fence - and a very sad, solitary poilceman sitting on each one.
That was the protection from the front of the airport, all the way round the back towards my office and round to the industrial units in Monkton. They omitted however to station anyone at the Air Traffic control side - so you could drive past the airport, round a round about, round theback, and there you were - 100 yards from Air Force One. Excellent fun.
Not sure why they didn't feel necessary to protect THAT part.
This year, - one of our neighbours - two doors down, have been tasked with deploying their security monitors. I like to call them "Shouty Cameras". They are Perimeter Intruder Dectector Systems. PIDs.
When they are testing them out the back, if it step out the door, it shouts "Intruder, You have Been Identified, the owner of these premises have been notified. Do not Move. Security is coming".
It also can be heard if I don't leave the warehouse but am just dancing around inside.
So - Now instead of police there are these, and a swarm of folk maintaining them.
We drove to Glasgow today, and passed about 12 Police on Motor bikes. Saw a couple of police vans travelling at high speed up and down the motor way, but No Greta. No protests.
We came home via my work. All the PIDs were out, but also - about 7 police cars, with all the police officers standing outside, leaning on the cars at both roundabouts.
Looks like they are in for a boring couple of days.
