A lifetime's achievement
Today's offering from Christchurch Priory is a funeral hatchment (corruption of "achievement "). They showed the coat of arms of the nobleman or woman who had died. They were carried in the funeral procession, displayed on the family house during the mourning period, and then transferred to the local church.
On a less funereal note, friends descended on the Priory after my welcoming shift and took me to the local carvery for a belated birthday lunch.
