Big glass Japanese float

This is one of my treasures - it's a huge glass float - a lovely turquoisy colour - from Sherkin Island. They used to be quite plentiful on the beaches but are much rarer now - they're glass floats that used to be used on Japanese fishing nets. They're of course now replaced with plastic ones - not quite as attractive!

When we lived in Barbados once in a while we'd find one of the east coast beaches there - friends of ours had so many they had special shelves built for them - they were such amazing colours. You can buy replicas knotted with macrame in craft shops - they're not the same but still lovely!

This one takes pride of place in my little dwelling. It's over a foot in diameter.
