Rievaulx Abbey
We have spent an enjoyable day visiting one of our favourite places.
The Abbey was founded in 1132 by the Cistercian monks who came over from Clairvaux, Burgundy.
At its peak in the 1160s it was home to a community of over 600 men.
Now in ruins, and Rievaulx is a tiny sleepy village on the banks of the river Rye.
One of the most peaceful places I know, and a real hidden gem.
After looking round the Abbey we walked along the riverbank to the bridge ( see extra)
and back.
Then a trip into Helmsley to round off a perfect day.
Fortunately the weathermen got it wrong, and it was mild and breezy. No rain and even some sunshine.
Back at the caravan and it is now pouring down.
If they will upload I have included a couple of extras.
