At the risk of sounding ancient, I recall that when I was young we ate hot cross buns only on Good Friday. All the shops were shut except the baker's, which was open until midday for us to buy the hot buns. Now you can buy them all the year round and most of the shops are open. I have also seen crisps flavoured with hot cross buns. As my grandma would say, "Whatever next?!"
