Raising the pulse

I cook with red lentils a lot - that jar gets emptied and filled regularly. But I never get organised enough to go through the overnight soaking and boiling to death required for the chickpeas and kidney beans. I know, I know ... it's worth it and yes, they'll taste far better than the canned versions!

Any suggestions - both for recipes AND for taking shots of objects with reflective surfaces?
