Strange noises coming from under the table.

The dog's trying to make a point.

He's quietly whining/moaning intermittently.

He wants me to sit on the corner settee so that he can sit on my lap and snuggle up. But with less than 5 mins left of my lunch break I've stayed at the kitchen table.

Much to his disappointment.
