Covent Garden

It was wonderful to see Covent Garden coming back to its usual liveliness. Lots of foreign tourists have returned and are appreciating what our capital city has to offer.

It was great to hear Italian, American, Japanese, Chinese and the wider range of visitors languages. And SO many foreign visitors are respectfully wearing masks, as though they recognise that Covid is still such a substantial threat.

Contrast that with the maskless crowds on our intercity trains. No social distancing and Avanti West Coast ,although they are insisting on travellers having reservations, failed to display any reservations on both my journeys.

My blip was taken early, well before appreciative music lovers provided an audience for the classical buskers in the Apple Market. The atmosphere will return.

“La Traviata” was stunning. The two stars from the outstandingly good “Rigoletto” were back and I can honestly say this was probably the very best production I have ever seen.

A wonderful weekend, but things have some way to go to return to a safe “normal”.
