Mono Monday: "Invention"

For the last Monday of the month, we can choose an invention from any era, and I've gone for... the toilet! 

Toilets having been around in some form or another from time immemorial, I thought I'd better narrow it down to the flush toilet. The precursor of modern flush toilets was designed in 1596 by John Harington, later improved with innovations patented by Alexander Cummings (1775) and Joseph Bramah (1778).

This is a Victorian flush thunderbox, most likely dating from the 1860s.
