Olivera de Cort
We took the bus into Palma this morning and visited La Seu (aka the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma) and the many lanes and shops of the old town. Beautiful place. We saw this marvellous olive tree, known as Olivera de Cort, which was taken to Palma from a country estate in Pollença, in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, to be planted in the Plaça de Cort as a symbol of peace and unmovable roots in the land. It is about 600 years old and has become a symbol for Palma. In 2003 it was recorded in a list of unique trees in the Balearic Islands.
This afternoon we went to the beach in Arenal, where we are staying, and had a lovely sea swim beneath a double rainbow.
