Not the Grey mare’s tail

I should have posted a pic of the spectacular waterfall, the Grey mare’s tail, but for me this was the most evocative point of our brief, and very cold and wet visit. I think most folk will probably walk past this as they head up the hill into the nature reserve but I can’t resist an Iron Age hill fort so took the wee detour off the path. Not much to see of the fort and embankment but you can pick out the shape and size of it if you’ve got a vague idea what it might have looked like. The view up and down the glen is excellent and it’s not hard to imagine how the fort would have dominated this strategic point and wode painted warriors heading out to steal their neighbours cattle… a long tradition in these parts.

We then retreated to Moffat for a delicious and warming lunch before buying a jigsaw to occupy us on a wet and windy evening. N.B. Jigsaws are not easy after a few glasses of wine.
