Colombia - Day 11
I am seriously behind in editing (or even looking at) my photos, but I wanted to get something up for today before I hit the bed. This gorgeous creature is an Emerald Toucanet, a bird that I had especially wanted to see here in Colombia. We all got several good looks at a pair of them and I don't think I'd be exaggerating to say that several thousand shots were fired!
This was our last day in this lovely country, and we started very early this morning in search of the Torrent Ducks. After several hours (during which we were entertained by numerous other birds) we finally got our first and only look at a female Torrent Duck. Well worth the wait as she's a stunning creature. From there we made our way up into the hills to the home of Carlos where we spent the rest of the afternoon photographing red-bellied grackles, toucanettes, and a host of hummers and tanagers.
Back to the hotel to drop our camera gear and then off to a final dinner with our two guides, driver and all six of us. I feel that I've made some lovely new friends on this trip - they've taught me some things about photography, made me laugh, and dispensed a few hugs. It was a wonderful group to travel with. I hope to return to Colombia again - the flora, fauna, people, scenery and food are absolutely wonderful.
Tomorrow my day starts very early as I need to leave for the airport by six. I will eventually land in New Jersey around 7:30 tomorrow evening. If I have time along the way, I will try to post a back-blip for yesterday (you'll love the bird, I promise); if not, I'll do it after I'm home and have time to go through the images. As for tomorrow's blip - it will most likely be something very boring, like the boarding gate of the airplane.
Thanks for joining me on the adventure of Colombia. And I suggest putting this country on your list of places to visit - wether you like birds or flowers or quaint villages or breathtaking scenery, you won't be disappointed. And thank you again for all the love.
