Alamein

79 years ago today at 21:30 the largest artillery bombardment ever began and signalled the start of the battle that saw the tide turning in favour of the allies in WW2.

The Master Gunner of St James’ Park (nothing to do with Newcastle United FC!!) read out the account of the Gunner’s last surviving veteran of the battle who sadly passed away a week ago. Powerful words indeed.

Every year a formal white tie dinner is held in the RA Mess at Larkhill to commemorate the part played by the Royal Regiment of Artillery at El Alamein. It was a great evening, and a lot of fun.
