South Africa comes to Oban

A rather gloomy day today, with frequent rain showers. I was lucky to find a gap in the rain to walk down to the town to meet a friend from the Photographic Club. We'd arranged to have a look at the Congregational Church hall with a view to booking it for our club meetings. Currently we're in the new Rockfield Centre, but the prices there are quite a bit higher than we're used to and if they're not careful the various clubs and organisations that are beginning to book their meetings will have second thoughts.

My Blip today was either going to be a picture looking down Argyll Street of the 'Isle of Arran' coming into the pier, or this Nerine undulata which is growing in a pot on the deck. It's one of a collection of half-hardy nerine species which I brought from Arduaine after my successor threw them all out of the glasshouse. It's survived a couple of winters under the eaves of the house, but it's not particularly hardy, coming from the East Cape of South Africa. I'll need to start thinking which potted plants need some protection as winter approaches, though we don't usually get much frost until after Christmas.
