View of Lourdes from the Wax Museum

It was a gloomy day. The temperature dropped about twenty degrees!

Since we did all the religious stuff yesterday, we decided to do more exploring of the town. First on the list was to see the Chateau Fort. In the photo it's located right on the hill to the right. It was a really nice chateau and I felt Lourdes had redeemed itself from all the touristy hotels and gift shops. There was more to Lourdes than what we had seen yesterday.

After that we walked down the city center and saw the hotels disappear. There was a Monoprix and a outdoor and indoor farmer's market. We bought some homemade cookies and some brebis (sheep) cheese. Then we walked down the street and found their hotel de ville. The building was beautiful, red bricked building. Down the street was a boulangerie. There we bought a baguette.

We returned back to hotel de ville and found some shelter from the light rain under a large tree. We ate our lunch of baguette and cheese, then had some cookies for dessert. There was even an old lady who said it was cold, but then something about us being young and that we could be okay. She had to be the first nice lady we met our whole trip in Lourdes. Everybody else we've encountered was really rude.

After lunch, we went to the wax museum and we took a audio guided tour of the life of St. Bernadette and then a tour of the life of Jesus. The audio tour made going through the museum really quick and I felt like we didn't have enough time to really admire the wax sculptures.

Anyway, we didn't know what else to do so we walked around a little more. After a while, we got tired of seeing the same things again, so we went to the train station to see if we could take a later train back to Bordeaux. We had to pay 4.50 euro each for the earlier ticket, which I was completely okay with. We didn't get to leave as early as we thought though. There was a train stuck at our platform where our train should have arrived. That caused delays throughout the board for all the other trains.

Well to wrap things up, despite the delays we still arrived earlier than originally planned. It was nice to be back in Bordeaux.
