Turbines and props
A full day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn. MrsW was due for post-stroke hydrotherapy and I had to have a blood test so as we had received our Covid booster invites we decided to book them for the same day and save a number of car journeys. All went well and great praise to the pleasant hardworking folk who helped that happen.
The blip is of the wind turbine in the hospital carpark which produces enough electricity to power 350 homes and saves over 600 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The staff and the turbine are to the hospital's credit. The downside is that this hospital was built in 1980 and designed to last for 30 years. It currently has 131 props holding it up (that was a figure from the Eastern Daily Press in April this year, it may be more now) and was described by one member of staff as "Grenfell waiting to happen". MrsW told me she had a prop above her head in the changing room she used for hydrotherapy. Queen Elizabeth's Hospital has been allocated £20 million for what are basically short term fixes but it was not included amongst the 40 hospitals which have been given the go ahead for rebuild under the government's Health Infrastructure plan. God knows what state the 40 that got on the list are in.
