Portland Bill Lighthouse

Much chillier today when we visited Portland. The wind was really strong so it was much colder than the 13C the car was showing! Lots of windsurfers struggling to keep control as we passed them going across the causeway to Portland. The sea also looked choppy.

This lighthouse was built in 1844 and there is also an obelisk with the date, erected by Trinity House at that time on the southernmost tip of the Bill…you can see it in the photo. There is an older disused lighthouse a bit further inland.
This lighthouse has been unmanned since 1996.
