was along the road at the local Methodist Chapel so didn't need to travel to Newcastle.
This building is known locally as the Gun Chapel.Two cannons were presented there soon after it opened and remained there until 1942.
They were then removed for salvage for the War effort.
More sad information 're a parishioner.There's a plaque and tree planted in his memory.
One Sunday in 1989 he was walking home when he was shot dead by a young local lad just shooting at random.
He shot a total of eighteen people  then drove to the seafront where he was arrested by the police.
