Autumnal canal

A long, partly frustrating and partly satisfying day.

I had to take the car out to People's Ford to get something done related to a Ford recall. I cannot even remember what it was about. Nothing too serious, or which has stopped us driving the car whilst we were waiting for them to sort themselves out. People's Ford is miles away. When we first moved here there was a garage on Craighall Road which did Fords - gone years ago; then there was an Evans Halsall in Porty where we bought our previous car and occasionally took it for over-priced servicing - also gone. We bought the car in Glasgow, and now for servicing it has to go to a garage in Bankhead. Luckily the servicing is minimal - only once every two years, apparently. The only advantage to the garage is that it is right on the Union canal, so whilst I was waiting I had to participate in a meeting, so took myself off to wander along the canal, which was cold but sunny.

A day of trying to get things finished whilst dealing with a weight of correspondence.... And then the wardrobes were delivered, or at least their component parts. The two rather elderly deliverymen nearly killed themselves getting it all upstairs...(no lift), and by the time they left I had more or less run out of steam to get on the spinning bike. What completely killed that intention was then discovering that our water heater/heating controller appeared not to be working. It seemed to be entirely dead, leaving us facing the prospect of no heating and hot water for days until we got it fixed, although someone on our building mailing list seemed to think it was easy to replace. Anyway, someone suggested that these devices need occasional resetting, but since it seemed dead that didn't strike me as likely to solve the problem. But it did! It came alive. Oh, happy me. The water is heating as we speak for my evening shower!

It's almost as absurd as the tale of the dressing gown...
