After school park
I don't usually pick Eben up from school two days in a row, but Ruth and Josh needed a bit of an extra hand today. We spent a bit of time back at their house, but Eben quickly decided that he'd like to take a walk to a nearby park - Heeley Millenium Park - in the brilliant late afternoon sunshine. I didn't take much persuading.
The playground there has some lovely equipment, including a high slide that runs down from a good, solid wooden platform. At the top is a little space that Eben calls 'the attic' - one of those slightly magical, semi-hidden spots, perfectly designed to appeal to a five year old.
On the way back, we took a short-cut along a street where I lived, with Jack and Ruth, in the early 1990s (after separating from their Dad). A street with a quintessentially Sheffield name: Artisan View. It's an eclectic mix of houses; the oldest is a stone farmhouse that would once have looked out over a wooded valley; later, Victorian terraced houses of various shapes and sizes enveloped the original farm, as industry spread through the valley. We passed my old address, a small terraced house in a yard of four; I was glad to see that it, and its garden, look well cared-for.
