Creake Abbey

A dull, wet started but the clouds soon disappeared and it has been a sunny day. However, the notable thing today has been the strong wind and cold air - very different from early in the week.
We decided to see if the wind was not as strong inland and visited Creake Abbey or the ruins that remain. It has foundations that go back to the 11th century, founded as a hospital for the poor and became an Augustinian abbey. The remains are sufficient to show that it was once an impressive building with the cloisters now a private house. The stonework is traditional for this part of Norfolk using flints to strengthen the walls as well as a decorative finish.
I also bought two photographs by a photographer who runs a framing shop from the small units housed in the grounds. I have bought very few other  photographs and have just one - a Fay Godwin given as a leaving present many years ago - so this is a rare event, but I was captivated by many of his images. Even more impressed to discover that he uses his smart phone as his main camera.
This afternoon we returned to Holm for a walk along the beach. It felt slightly warmer - perhaps we are just adjusting to the temperature change and the wind was less biting.
