A cracking day
At last we woke up to a cloudless blue sunny frosty autumn morning. Just as it should be.
Our target for today was two outlying Wainwrights down near Kendal, near Long Sleddale , parking in the tiny hamlet of Sadgill. It took us an hour and a half to drive there because we chose to approach along about nine miles of single track road. Luckily we only met one refuse lorry and only had to reverse several hundred metres to a gateway!
It was quite chilly to start with but beautifully sunny and clear.
The first 'peak' was Tarn Crag which bears an unusual structure at the top, the remains of a surveying tower apparently, details here. ( under Haweswater aqueduct) It was deserted up there, quite bleak in a way, stark and beautiful.
After that it was a fairly easy continuation of the walk to the top of Grey Crag, with a quick picnic in the sunshine between the two.
Photo is the tower at the top of Tarn Crag. You can see Morecambe Bay shimmering in the distance.
It’s Blipfoto’s 17th birthday today. I love this place, safe , non judgemental and endlessly fascinating. I love finding out about other countries, other lives and what makes people tick. Full of admiration for those who’ve been here since the beginning.
Thanks to all those who keep it all going.
