Looking West

This is looking West, watching the sun come up over Lake Macatawa in Holland Michigan.

Macatawa is connected to Lake Michigan by a channel that passes by the Big Red lighthouse. When we first moved here 5-years ago I was dead-set on living on this lake. A real estate agent was showing my wife and I a lovely home when she referred to it as "Lake Macatoliet."

I knew it was over from the very moment that expression came out of her mouth.

Bacteria in Lake Macatawa has been a recurring problem, with the beaches being shut down twice last year because of high bacteria counts. Michigan State University has sent experts on water quality, environmental and molecular microbiology. It will get better over many years time.

Instead of Lake Mactawa, we chose a lovely home on a wooded lot. A wise man defers to his wife. Especially when she is much smarter than he.
