"A Great Selection"
....Of beautiful jewellery including Australian Opal, which is very beautiful and is made into jewellery by the people who own the local gem and gift shop, along the track a bit from us..
We love going there, it's so different, although I know there are many places around which sell the same type of jewellery and artefacts, but we wanted to buy a couple of gifts for our grandchildren, and as well have lunch there at their little restaurant.
We thought we'd go today, Thursday, before the many thousands of tourists hit the town - for Easter, although judging by the traffic on the way home they're already on their way with boats, and camper trailers..and it's only Thursday...
The little gem shop out in the sticks was once a family hobby that has grown into an outstanding display of gemstones, most are precious and most jewellery is crafted in their little workshop...The ceiling shown above, is a sculptured ceiling, quite incredibly made from sprayed concrete and hessian...Some time - I'll take another blip there to show you the shop including the greater part of the ceiling which intrigues tourists and children alike..
No, we didn't buy any precious gems for Estelle today, I already have a beautiful large opal pendant, and a lovely ring..which I should wear more often John said...
Both necklaces shown here are opal, and quite a price if you can see the ticket..and in the jar shown here, is what they call 'opal chips' which are from cutting bigger stones, or just chips which have been found in the Opal mines - there are quite a few Opal mines in eastern, northern and south Australia..
When I was a governess - I lived not too far from two different opal mines, and to see the mines from the air is so incredible...oh, if only I had a camera then....
