Aquinnah Cliffs Sunset

Today was simply the best day of our trip.  We started out early and went to the Felix Neck Audubon Sanctuary between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown.  We saw Kingfishers and many wading egrets and herons, but most were too far away for my 400 mm lens. 

We picked up a beautiful lunch in Edgartown and ate it while we waited for the "Chappy" ferry to Chappaquiddick Island.  It only takes 3 cars at a time and the ferry ride only lasts about 3-4 minutes, but even with two ferries running, we still had enough time for our lunch before it was our turn.  We explored several areas on the Cape Poge Wildlife refuge on the island and had a nice walk on the easternmost beach.  

Late afternoon we took the ferry back and drove to the westernmost and opposite side of the island known as Aquinnah.  After a hike up to the overlook for Gay Head and a look at the Lighthouse, we hiked down to Aquinnah beach and waited for sunset.  We were not disappointed.  The red cliffs lit up as the sun got low in the sky.  Have a look in LARGE. 

We were pretty exhausted after the long day out, but 16000 steps took all the guilt out of yet another Lobster Roll for dinner.
