Darkness

As I was leaving for work at 7am this morning, it was pretty much pitch black. It was a headlight and high-vis kinda morning and I think I nearly ran over a black dog in the quarry.

After a reasonably satisfying day at work, I spent the evening with some friends who had been working in Afghanistan for the past eight years and had to leave when Kabul fell to the Taliban. Great to spend an evening with them, and their delightful kids, but hard to hear of their hearts and lives now being split between two different places and all the colleagues and friends they’ve left behind.

A dark cycle home so I made a shortcut through the hospital. There were rows of ambulances, at least ten, just waiting outside with patients in. Apparently this is fairly standard at the moment but it’s pretty flipping grim.
