Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Testing, testing…

Though I slept fairly well last night, and thought I had escaped the worst of this cold, I stayed in bed all day, wrapped up, hot water bottle, woolly hat on, closed my eyes (they’re stinging) and listened to the radio and podcasts in between snoozes.

Our young neighbour was coming to spend an hour or so with us, as her dad was working and her mum’s away, so I thought it better just keep out of the way. They all went out for a walk. She’s taller than JR, and she’s Number 1 tennis player for her age (9) in the UK.

In the afternoon I did a lateral flow test. It was negative, but I know they’re not infallible. I’ll do it again in a couple of days, though I know I haven’t been anywhere without a mask on recently - almost everybody here wears masks on buses and in shops. Mind you, the cases in Scotland (and England, where mask wearing isn’t mandatory) are soaring, so something’s not right.

I do wish they’d hurry up with these winter booster shots for us oldies…
