"Jaakko Forsman"

My walk from the hotel to the office takes me through (or at least, I choose to have it take me through, rather than around the outside of ;) Hietaniemi cemetery. Many of the great and the good from Finland's past are buried there.

Jaakko Forsman was a Finnish jurist and politician, and a leading member of the Fennoman movement, whose motto was:

  "We are not Swedes,
   We do not want to be Russians,
   So let's be Finns."

He received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki, with the first Finnish language dissertation ever submitted there.
