Carnage

With a quietish day in the bag yesterday, I was keen to get out of the house, hell, out of Kendal for a couple of hours, so booked us tickets to see Ron’s Gone Wrong at the Vue in Lancaster. It was nice, family friendly fodder which the wee ones gave five stars, but can’t say that I thought it was that great. A little formulaic if truth be told.

These days a visit to the cinema is an operation which requires some planning, so knowing that we would be back around teatime and that apathy would ensure that I wouldn’t be in the mood for cooking on our return, Sunday morning was spent getting a delicious cottage pie prepped.

Post lunch we headed off on an extremely drizzly day and arrived in a continually drizzly and rather miserable Lancaster. Definitely a good day to be at the movies. It was really busy too, I think a lot of people were there to see the latest Bond. Consciously, I stared away from the counter as the children’s snacks were deposited, poured and rung up - Peter Kay’s exclamation “You should be wearing a mask in here!” playing in my ears - and we headed to our seats. On the way up Matty commented on the slightly terrifying Venom poster that it “looked really cool” and posed next to it. Only when I returned home and took a closer look at the photo did I realise that she was pulling the same face as Woody Harrelson directly above her, who happens to play the role of Carnage in the film. No irony there then…

Where the day started with the construction of a cottage pie, it finished with its demolition followed by an improvised cherry and apple crumble which was a doddle to make and flippin’ scrummy.

Clean bowls and full tums all round. Just as a Sunday dinner should be.

Precious little carnage.
