After work, I suggested to Abi that we go for a drive together. I thought we could go up to the Spar in Sedbergh and buy some stuff for dinner. As she seems to be getting the hang of regular roads, I suggested we take the lane from Kearstwick to Rigmaden.

In fact, we spent a bit longer on the lanes than we planned to as when we tried to join the main road at Rigmaden, it was closed for repairs. But we eventually arrived at the Spar, did our shopping and headed for home, driving most of the way to Kendal and then cutting down Beehive Lane to join the road back to Kirkby Lonsdale.

By this time, I reckon it was about half-past six and I was looking forward to getting home for something to eat. However, about a mile and a half south of Old Hutton, Abi took a bend quite widely, with her wheels going to the edge of the road.

Now that shouldn't have been a problem but the roads 'round our way aren't in great repair and the tarmac at the edge was broken up, so she effectively hit a serious pothole at about thirty miles an hour and the tyre blew. Well, she handled the situation brilliantly and in no time we were safely parked up at the side of the road.

The next challenge should have been trying to explain to the AA where we were* but I have recently started using an app called 'What three words', which divides the globe into three metre squares, each of which is labelled by three words. (I used the app on Friday to show Ian precisely where he could leave his car at our office.)

I was delighted to discover that the AA also use W3W and by telling them "hoot stupidly lectures" they were able to pinpoint my location immediately! After that it was just a matter of getting a lift home for Abi and then spending two hours in the cold and dark, waiting for the AA!

*OK, in theory, I could have attempted changing the tyre, even in the dark BUT the tool kit required was not under the driver's seat as the manual suggested. The peril of buying a second hand car!
