Work In Progress.
Still.
Wonder if the tram lines will last anywhere near as long as the buildings on either side. Somehow I doubt it! How long do we all give them? Presumably at least as long as it takes the city to pay off the debt - 15 years was the last timescale I saw, along with something that claimed the project will have cost as much as the Apollo Moon Landing. That includes the interest payments, so it is disputed by those who back the tram project, but I think that is missing the point. Sending two men 950,000 miles, where no-one had ever been before, cost a ballpark-similar amount (adjusted for inflation) to building an 8-mile stretch of tram track. Let's not think about the claims that they bought way too many trams up front, that they are heavier and wider than they needed to be, leading to all sorts of problems, and the chaos down the whole of Leith Walk that seems to be completely pointless as the trams will stop at Elm Row. The inquiry into how this was mismanaged by the local and national (ie Scottish) political class is long overdue but I'm guessing we will never find out what really went on, and how it was all allowed to go so badly wrong.
