Soğanlı Valley, Cappadocia - Road trip

An extraordinary day. The variety of countryside that we drove through and walked around defies description, the collage gives an idea -  but really, I can only suggest that everyone visits this region of Turkey to see for themselves. Lush autumnal coloured valleys, panoramic majesty of rock and green, ancient and abandoned stone village, a church in a hill top cave - we saw it all, and more. Very few people, a handful of tourists is all we saw all day, but walking around I talked to a local  woman who explained that the village of Soganli was abandoned in 1995 due to falling rock, but they all still live nearby. The hill walk that started in the valley was worth the climb to the church carved out of the rock in C14th where you could still make out some freezes on the outer walls. And, oh, the colours!!

Back in Ürgüp and dinner at Sofra restaurant, before sharing our last evening with Murat, Krystal and Jerry over a couple of beers.  Today, in fact every day here, forever in my mind.
