Wednesday: My Wild Swans Bug Bear

So, tonight, I would like to talk about one of my really big bug bears.  I am currently reading this book, 'Red Dust', about a young man's journey through China in the 1980s.  I have only just started it but it is already very promising.  

Now, here is my bug bear.  The only thing that this book has in common with 'Wild Swans' (which is an excellent book!) is that it is set in China.  Nothing else binds these books together, not a sausage!  Or chopstick, for that matter!  So, why does every book about China have to be 'the new 'Wild Swans'?  Seriously, it drives me mad.  

And it's not just 'Wild Swans' that suffers this fate, every book in Japan is the new 'Memoirs of a Geisha'.  Oh, I'm sure I could probably go on....

Anyway, the new 'Wild Swans' and me are off to bed before I fall off my soapbox.
