... and then there were three

I started the day with a run, this time going west along Princes Street and then down past the Filmhouse, through the Meadows, and then below Arthur's Seat. Just the thing to clear the cobwebs!

After that, I joined the gang at the Southern Cross Café on Cockburn Street for breakfast. To be honest, I preferred it to Brown's, which is a bit up itself for my tastes, and I could happily have spent the morning in the café, although that would have been a little unfair on the queue of people waiting outside when we left.

Normally, Sunday marks the last day of any Special Assignment but this time we'd decided to extend through until Monday, which, in the end, only three of us could manage: So, E took the train back to Blackpool and Ross flew down to Cardiff, while Ash, Bob, and I took a walk up to the City Observatory on Carlton Hill.

Whenever we go on these trips, it's Bob who does all the research on places to eat and drink, and I was very glad of the extra day so that we could enjoy a few more of the places on his list. Most notable were Dirty Dickies, whose dark interior very much matched my ideal lighting levels for a hostelry, and Kay's Bar, tucked away from the beaten track  but well worth a visit. (And when I say tucked away, I mean practically hidden!)

We finished up at Bennet's, which gave me a nostalgic twinge for the evenings I spent there with my friend Cameron. To be honest, he was one of a handful of people I would love to have seen while I was in Edinburgh but, of course, I was here to spend time with Bob, Ash, Ross, and E, and I will just need to arrange another trip up here*.

*Spolier: we have one planned soon!
