Last day in The Assynt

The rain cleared before dawn and after a small bowl of porridge we were out the door by eight. The Quinag is scarcely a mountain, more a conglomeration of high rocky hills. Still it’s a fair old climb and scramble with its bogs, boulders and scree slopes and half the way there is no clear path from our angle of approach.
We were lucky to make the nearest summit in light cloud and sunny spells ( the mountain weather forecast said clear with excellent visibility all day) and had a picnic in sunshine but thin low cloud and drizzle set in for much of the way down.
We were back to Lochinver for a quick wander round the craft market and then home for tea and a chat with our hosts here, Gita and David, to say goodbye. They are such delightful folk; they live nearby and are very friendly and helpful but also greatly respectful of our space here and never intrude. We’ve had some lovely conversations with them though and it’s been good to hear about their lives as “incomers” from the north of England to the highlands, and their involvement with the local community. Good people, I shall miss them.
...and so, supper, writing a few notes in the guest book, a quick shower, packing...there’s just time for a hot chocolate with a drop of brandy, a couple of songs with the old guitar and an early bed.

Wishing you a good weekend.
