Big Bee

Today was my planned visit to the new RHS garden for the North, RHS Bridgewater, developed around the kitchen garden of Worsley New Hall which was built for the 1st Earl of Ellesmere between 1840 and 1845.

Despite only being a few years old, the planting was looking quite lush in the main gardens, and even this late in the year the bees were still busy. I don't think I've seen bees as big as the ones flying around this salvia. I had to laugh when one landed on one flower which fell off dumping the bee on the ground ... a few seconds laters it was up looking for a mode secure landing.
