The Avalon

This cafe is a wonderful example the best of Katoomba's art deco, from a time when it provided refreshments for the patrons of the Savoy picture theatre next door.You can see the gorgeous railings set in terrazzo which lead into the theatre, now the Avalon restaurant.
At least half of the shops are not yet open, or had shut down, and this coffee shop was the only one I could find that was operating.

Katoomba has many photogenic laneways and I've added one in extras.
It felt good to walk around with the camera, but it was a sad scene I found.
There's a long way to go before things return to normal.
