DMU at Goathland
The day started very wet and grey…and we headed off to Goathland for a wander. Stopped in a small tea room for coffee which was OK until it was invaded by a coachload of tourists….who seemed to have no concept of social distancing….so we left in a hurry and walked down to the station, just in time to see this DMU service arrive from Pickering, on its way to Grosmont. The only evidence of a steam train all day was a line of vapour in the valley as we drove towards Goathland - but that had long gone by the time we got there.
We had a walk around the village and some of the footpaths…and got a bit damp. We the drove across the hills to Staithes on the coast…I walked down into the town…Mrs madwill couldn’t face the climb back up so she stayed in the car at the top of the hill.
We stopped at a cafe in Sandsend for a cup of tea and a cake on the way back to Whitby - by which time it had stopped raining and the sun was trying to break through! Only managed 10k steps today!
