Safety pin

Something invented in the 19th century:
The ancient Greeks and Egyptians already used safety pins, but a different kind. It is believed today that the first safety pins saw the light of day around 2000 BC.
But the modern safety pin, which we still use today, was invented by Walter Hunt, 1849.
