Ladies who Munch

H and I walked around Felbrigg this morning, also having a drink at the cafe and a walk around the walled garden. When I went over to photograph the sheep, most ran away, but these ladies munching on the vegetation seemed keen to have their photo taken. Another beautiful sunny day, so more gardening this afternoon, moving things around and dividing up some pulmonaria. My new driving licence arrived today, which was very quick as they used the photo on file used for my passport. It's a UK driving licence too, with a hologram of my photo on the back.

NHS England shows that unvaccinated pregnant women made up 17% of critically ill Covid patients between July and Sept - the CMO urged such women to get vaccinated. The Health and the Education Secretary have written to parents of secondary school and college students, encouraging them to ensure their children get tested regularly and get vaccinated. Given high virus levels among this age group, I'm with the 5 education unions who wrote to the Education Secretary last week asking him to look at bringing back stricter safety measures. Daily cases were back over 40k today. Dame Sarah Gilbert has criticised the lack of funding for vaccine development, and said her work on jabs for various diseases like Nipah had stalled and gone 'backwards'. She added 'if we get a Delta variant of Nipah virus, then suddenly we've got a highly transmissible virus with a 50% fatality rate. Per The Sun, ministers were informed by security services that Russia made its Sputnik V jab after stealing the Oxford vaccine designs.  A single AstraZeneca antibody injection is reported to reduce the risk by 50% compared to a placebo of severe Covid or death in people who had been symptomatic for up to a week. The Covid Pass was introduced in Wales today. Germany has stopped providing free lateral flow tests, people now have to pay for them.
