Iron Age Fort

Lamberts Castle Hill, as the National Trust signs call it, is a SSSI protected area which rises to a height of 840 ft or 256m and it is said that the view to the east over the Marshwood Vale is one of the finest in the County.

At the northern end of the hill, which is surrounded on three sides by steep slopes, is the remains of an Iron Age fort which is around 2500 years old.

Today's blip is the remains of the ramparts and defensive ditch, which on the left of the picture, falls away steeply to the road many feet below. Even after all this time since it was constructed, the ditch is still clearly definable all the way around the location of the fort

All this history means not a jot to Jinxy with his attention ending at his ball but I enjoyed my little walk through history, especially on a nice sunny morning with a light breeze from the east. Sets you up just right for breakfast when you get home!
