Sunset

We had to be up and out by 9am, which was rather uncivilised, but we made it. It was very overcast and damp, but not cold.  We headed straight to Findhorn for breakfast.  We had talked about going all week, but didn’t get round to it, so today was the day.  We sat outdoors, overlooking the marina.  It was brightening, but very slowly.  We had a lovely breakfast, then walked around the headland and along the beach.  The tide was rushing in and a wee yacht was really blown about as it left the shelter of the bay and headed out to open water.

Our next stop was Cawdor.  I had been once before when I was still at school, - so quite a long time ago.  I couldn’t remember much about it, but wanted to take a look.  In the end we didn’t go into the castle, just wandered the gardens, which were lovely.  BB was disappointed that the maze was closed.  Our next stop was Culloden battlefield.  Last visited the last time I was at Cawdor.  Again, I didn’t remember much, but being a battlefield it hasn’t changed!  However, there is a swanky new visitor centre, but we were unable to visit due to Covid,  and rather disappointingly the café was closed.  We were all starting to feel peckish, so that was a blow.

We continued our journey to Inverness, where we stopped at a supermarket for some provisions and a snack to keep us going.  We then got back on the A9 and headed north to our destination – and new holiday cottage, in Portmahomack, for the second week of our holiday.  It’s a lovely cottage a stone’s throw from the beach.   We settled in, then TT and I went out for a wee wander.  We last visited Portmahomack about 13 years ago, when BB was a tot.  A local man engaged us in a chat and told us lots of interesting things about the village and roundabout.  After tea, TT and I went out to see this amazing sunset.

The extras are at Findhorn (the boats), Cawdor Castle and Culloden Battlefield.
