Walked round Newhailes again and on the way back noticed this pair of shoes hanging in a tree close to the Brunstane Burn, Looking more closely there were at least three other pairs up there among the branches. 'Shoe trees' like this are apparently a 'thing' around the world although there is no real agreement what the practise is about. Maybe people just like the incongruity of it.
