Bright colours on a dismal day

The creeper on the wall down the lane opposite our house has recently burst into its full autumnal splendour.

More bright colour gladdened my heart when I walked along the river this evening - the unmistakable turquoise blue flash of the kingfisher darting downstream. It really put a smile on my face, even though it was a fleeting glance, and there was never any hope of even a blurred blip!
