digging up the road

As watch this from my window I keep thinking about songs and road works.  Sad, I know.

I quickly dismiss Bruce Springsteen, because this digger is not 'working on the black-top'. 

The internet throws up a surprising range of artists who've covered this very topic, from Wal Langtry (1913), the Bar-Stewards of Val Doonican (2012) to Peppa Pig (2009).  Sigh.

I need a lie down now.
