Stanesland Standing Stane

It's still fairly windy, calmer tonight.  If it hadn't been so windy, it would have been a lovely warm day, the sun has been shining all day.  Clear skies tonight.

Day off, and up early.  A great day to get the washing out this morning.  Headed out walkies around Scalloway, and popped by Madeline's for a cuppa.  Met mam for lunch at the Olive Tree, missed that café since changing jobs.  We headed out west for a walk after.  A quiet evening at home.  Sammy is knackered, not wanting an evening walk.  Thank goodness Blipfoto hasn't been struck down like Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp this evening.

I spotted a standing stone marked on the map, so me and mam headed out to investigate.  The stone wasn't too far off the beaten track.  Standing about 7ft tall, an obscure shape, and in an unusual setting, left us pondering.  The bronze age monument has probably been a boundary marker, or for ritual, as it did have cup marks.  20m away stands a burnt mound, which is unusual to see the both close together.  It has been of importance at some point, and the croft in the background takes the name of Stanesland.  Taken at Stanesland, Mid Waas (Walls), north of Lera Voe.
