Light and Liverpool
I travelled to Formby this morning, walking to the beach. Very few people around, and fantastic light and skies.
I see that the mono Monday blip theme is “inventions of the 18th century”, which is interestingly niche. Well, the view in this image is towards Liverpool, which reinvented itself in the 18th century. The worlds first commercial wet dock was built there in 1715, and infamously it was at the centre of the Atlantic slave trade. By the end of the 18th century 40% of the world’s and 80% of Britain’s involvement in the trade happened through Liverpool. The slave trade and its consequences continues to reverberate in our own time.
Looking in other directions, the light was very different. I love these autumn skies.
It’s been a very good day because J was discharged from hospital late this afternoon. She is currently sitting next to me watching Gardeners World on TV on catch-up. A bit of feel-good TV and an early night is prescribed this evening.
