Red hedges
At this time of year the new red growth on the photinia bushes is beautiful, the more so as every second house seems to have a photinia hedge. Today they look particularly striking because the weather has been turbulent, dense purple clouds and heavy rain alternating with sunlight so brilliant it looks artificial. So far we haven’t had a tornado, like the one that hit the area around Bathurst on Thursday, and we haven’t had an earthquake, like the one centred around Mansfield in Victoria.
The bare trees in the extra are elm trees, and they are the next target for the arborists. In summer they block the sun light from our neighbour’s house, so they are going to have a ‘reduction prune’. It will be a much easier job than the last one. There is plenty of room for a cherry picker, so no climbing will be needed.
