No path

This field is the walking route to the village from our lane, it is a public footpath.  To go via the roads exposes you to a lethal stretch of the A272. The other route is twice as long and you still have to cross part of this.  The new ploughing is so soft that it can’t be walked on.  What do I do!  I know the farmer but I can’t quite find the right pass-agg question.  ‘When are you going to put the path in Pete?’  There has been a tyre track beaten path between two signs since we moved here and there are a lot of walkers who need this.  I currently feel like renting a land rover and doing it myself.
